About us

Afforestt was founded in 2011 by Shubhendu Sharma, inspired by a chance encounter with Dr. Akira Miyawaki and a shared vision to restore native forests. What began as an experiment in Shubhendu’s backyard has grown into a global movement—blending ecological wisdom with scientific rigour.

Over the years, we’ve drawn from the insights of leading botanists and soil experts to refine our approach, establishing more than 150 projects in over 10 countries. Today, Afforestt is a team of forest-makers, ecologists, designers, and storytellers, committed to reviving natural ecosystems.

Team

Afforestt began in 2011 with a simple yet powerful vision: to make native forest creation accessible to all. Founded by Shubhendu Sharma, the initiative was inspired by Akira Miyawaki’s teachings and driven by a deeper understanding of local ecology. What started as a small experiment on industrial land soon grew into a global movement—combining scientific rigour with a deep respect for natural systems. Over the years, Afforestt has evolved into a team of forest-makers, ecologists, and storytellers, restoring over 125 forests across 18 countries, while nurturing a growing community committed to bringing nature back.
